FIA and UNI MEI continue joint organizing effort in Latin America
The Latin American members of UNI MEI and FIA met in Buenos Aires to prepare a new 5-year regional project that is scheduled to begin in 2018. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of audiovisual unions in Latin America and support them, among others, in the organization of more young workers, and in achieving greater gender equality in union structures and in the workplace. .
The meeting in Buenos Aires was a meeting of the steering group to prepare all the actions planned for the new project in 2018.
The meeting was opened with a meeting of the women union leaders of the FIA and UNI MEI members to advise specific actions on gender equality. In this framework, the group decided the objectives and priorities for the next 5 years: representation of women in the unions and in the sector; gender violence in all its forms; equality of opportunities and salary. In 2018, FIA and UNI MEI will organize training for women in leadership and training for all union leaders in leadership with a gender perspective.
It was also decided that in 2018 UNI MEI and FIA will organize a training on the organization of young workers for all union leaders of their members with the active support of young union leaders.
Finally, specific actions are developed in Colombia, one of the priority countries for the next cycle. Here FIA and UNI MEI will organize in May 2018 a special training session on the organization of workers and to strengthen inter-union cooperation in the sector.
